Stop the Insanity!

I need a break from life. Today we visited the ER yet again. This would be the third trip to the ER in thirteen days for my family. This time it was for my husband. He is having back spasms so bad that at times he can’t stand or walk. It’s like watching a crooked 90 year old man try to move, except he’s only 36. I called every orthopaedic specialist in the area trying to get an emergency appointment. The first three doctors didn’t have any openings for three to four weeks. I finally found a doctor who had a wonderful receptionist working the phones and she managed to squeeze us in for tomorrow at noon. While I’m elated that someone was willing to at least look at his back before next month, it didn’t help his pain for today. So, to the ER we went.

Thirteen days ago my husband was in the ER for a self-inflicted eye injury. (Lesson to all – never eat a health bar with a piece of paper in your hand.) He scratched his cornea and could barely open his eye due to pain and severe swelling and redness. Last Tuesday it was my turn in the ER. (See post below.)

Needless to say we felt like morons going to the hospital again today. The good news is that we are now seasoned pros in the ER procedures at our local hospital. We’ve also come to realize that we’re fortunate to be 15 minutes from a really great hospital and group of health care professionals.

All I can say is, “Thank God we have excellent health insurance.” I do have one simple wish to make – no more trips to the ER for at least the rest of this year.
